Our adventure began in Los Angeles, California... we enjoyed so much delicious food, hiked to the Hollywood sign and prepped for our Yosemite and Sequoia National Park Adventure. The drive from LA to Sequoia National Park, our first stop, is just under four hours.

After checking out the visitor center, we headed to our first destination in Sequoia National Park... Hospital Rock. This area was once occupied by approximately 500 Native Americans. The ancient pictographs are out-of-this-world cool.

Our second stop, Moro Rock Trail, was absolutely beautiful. Moro Rock, which looms thousands of feet over the highway, is one of Sequoia's beautiful features- 350 stairs will take you to the top. Due to the seasonal road closure, we had to hike the road before getting to the 0.4 mile trailhead- we were able to see areas affected by the burns.

"The Booker T. Washington giant sequoia tree had fallen into obscurity until early in the 21st century when George Palmer, a newly-retired Californian, learned about the Buffalo Soldiers story and pressed for the park to observe the centennial of their service in Sequoia. He wrote letters informing President Clinton, Interior Secretary Bruce Babbitt, his California senator, Diane Feinstein, and Oprah Winfrey. When the National Park Service agreed to hold the Centennial Celebrations in 2003, the park's archivist, Ward Eldridge, began searching for records from the Buffalo Soldiers' time in the park. That's when he stumbled upon information about the Booker T. Washington tree, and set about identifying it among the Giant Grove of Sequoias."

While hiking the road to Moro Rock, we decided to veer off on the Hanging Rock Trail- and we were not disappointed. The views from this overlook were insanely gorgeous.

the largest living thing in the world
While in Sequoia National Park, we visited the largest living thing in the world (by volume)... named General Sherman- a giant sequoia standing over 275 feet tall.
trek to yosemite national park
After spending the day in Sequoia NP (we could easily go back for a week and not be able to see everything we want to), we made the drive down General Highway to Yosemite National Park to check-in to our cabin. The next morning, we took a little stroll down to the river to enjoy the scenery.

Our first stop in Yosemite was Tunnel View. Made famous by Ansel Adams and his black-and-white photography of Yosemite, this vista offered views of El Capitan, Half Dome, and Bridalveil Falls. This vista changes with each season to show something new but the best times to see Tunnel View are early spring (when Bridalveil Fall is at peak flow) and winter, when the beautiful granite domes are draped in snow and mist.

We hiked The Mist Trail to experience the power of the falls. Tip: Definitely bring your rain jacket with you!

Our next stop in Yosemite National Park was Mirror Lake. This 5 mile loop around the lake provides views of Half Dome , Tenaya Canyon, Mount Watkins, Washington Column, and much more!
